Alton Saceaux
I received devastating news from my brother Brock. Alton Saceaux was killed yesterday after being struck by a motorist in Bakersfield, CA. I don’t have details on what happened, but my brother indicated he was hit riding his bike by a drunk driver. (Update) Alton was killed Monday night on South Union Avenue where he was rear-ended by a pickup. The Driver was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter while driving drunk, felony drunken driving and hit and run.Alton was one of those guys who you loved to ride with. He could strike up a friendly conversation with everyone. Even though I only rode with him a few times, I could tell he always made everyone around him feel good. He used one of my favorite saying “hey, you riding or hiding?” He left a voicemail with my brother and you can quickly get sense of the fun loving Alton. I remember well when we rode the Solvang Century together last March the friendly nature of Alton. As we pedaled through Lompoc, CA, Alton noticed a group of Jehovah’s Witnesses doing their door to door ministry. He starts yelling, “Brothers! Brothers! Good Morning!” Both Alton and I are JW’s and the term brother is often used affectionately. However, Alton was friendly not only to people who rode bikes or shared his religious beliefs… He was a friendly guy to all. I’m sadden to hear what has happened. I’ll keep his Family in my thoughts and prayers. I have a strong belief we will see Alton again.  Alton is resting in sleep.
